CGI Prayer Connect  July 2013

PSALM 65:11-13 NLT
YOU CROWN THE YEAR WITH A BOUNTIFUL HARVEST; EVEN THE HARD PATHWAYS OVERFLOW WITH ABUNDANCE. THE WILDERNESS BECOMES A LUSH PASTURE, AND THE HILLSIDES BLOSSOM WITH JOY. THE MEADOWS ARE CLOTHED WITH FLOCKS OF SHEEP AND THE VALLEYS ARE CARPETED WITH GRAIN. THEY ALL SHOUT AND SING FOR JOY.

What a joyous Scripture; it shouts aloud of a beautiful climax to what has not always felt like an easy year.

The school year finishing this month truly hasn’t always felt easy or comfortable. It’s had many challenges for all of us, and yet at the end of it, we are still here and God is still on His Throne. We’ve stepped out of old roles and into new ones, acquired buildings and renovated them, risen up over issues to do with our health, fought our own personal and family battles and generally seen the Kingdom of God established in the arenas of our spiritual and physical influence.

And now we stand at the gate of the summer time and rejoice at what God has done. Take time to rest over the break and enjoy the bountiful harvest that God has given. Observe that even the hard pathways are overflowing with abundance and notice the ways in which the wilderness that Rick preached about on the last pastors’ day is yielding to the lushness of God’s new growth.

Let joy be your portion. Choose it. Make a decision to shout and sing like the Psalmist even if you haven’t seen everything you were looking for come to pass yet. Let your celebration be one of faith, because faith is the substance of the things we are hoping for, and it’s not faith if we wait for it to see it first.

We are on the cusp of huge change in CGI, and yet there’s an overwhelming sense that God is in control and there is nothing to be afraid of. Take the summer to rest. Let your meetings be kept to a minimum and cause times of laughter and recreation to be the agenda for yourself, your family and the church over these couple of months. Draw strength for the new year.

Find times to eat, laugh, and have fun together – don’t think it’s a waste… times like that forge the bonds that enable us to work together more effectively.

Above all… love God, love each other, love yourself. Emmanuel. Enjoy the summer whether the sun shines or not.

We are thankful for you and so glad for the times we have experienced together…
